10 Unusual Wedding Venues in Yorkshire – Yorkshire Wedding Photographer

Early last year when I was looking for my wedding venue, I came across a few unusual places which I thought I would share with you.  They’re all in Yorkshire and weren’t ones that we found through a wedding venue directory {which tends to be the first place you start looking}:

1. Weddings and Wellies

www.weddingsandwellies.co.uk

I came across this venue by accident, when I was looking for a photographer.  Its a farm in the beautiful countryside in Norrsithorpe in West Yorkshire and they offer marques & teepee’s {is that how its spelt} and also claim to be a green alterative to some of the more traditional venues such as hotels.

2. The Priory at Syningthwaite

I went to a wedding here last year.  Stunning is the only word I could use to describe it.  It’s literally in the middle of know-where  {though apparently not too far from wetherby} and so serene.  They have the use of a marque and also several private cottages should you wish to stay there.  I had some real wedding envy when I found out that my friend had booked it!

3. The Priests House, North Yorkshire

I loved the look of this one.  It’s in North Yorkshire, not too far from Bolton Abbey {which is gorgeous too} and would make a unique venue for a smaller wedding.

4. Hotel du Vin – Harrogate

This one was recommended by one of my followers on twitter.  {Great tip:  if you’re on twitter, ask for unusual suggestions for wedding venues – everyone is very helpful & friendly} and dont forget to follow me!

5. Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is about 2 minutes from my house – so this was the perfect location for us.  Unfortunately I only found this one, after we had booked ours!

6. Millennium Galleries, Sheffield

This location looked like an amazing venue for a smart city wedding.  All the photos I saw looked wonderful & definitely a unique place – with easy access to Sheffield Town Centre for hotels etc.

7. Crab and Lobster

www.crabandlobster.co.uk

This was our first choice for our own wedding, however they couldnt fit us in when we wanted to do it!  Such an unusual venue.  The restaurant is amazing, and the food is to die for.  The Manor house, which you get full exclusive use of for the day is really quirky and full of vintage stuff and antiques {though Andrew said it was stuffed full of cr*p}.

8. Cannon Hall, Barnsley– www.barnsley.gov

This is definitely one of the more traditional venues, however it didnt come up on any of oursearches & having been to their kids farm with Sophie, I already knew that it was gorgeous.  Plenty of space for a marquee, or a smaller venue if you used some of the rooms in the house itself.

9. Newton Grange Farm, Gargrave, Nr Skipton

I really liked the idea of having accomodation onsite {without it being a hotel} so this venue was perfect.  There’s seperate accomodation & beautiful scenery – what more could you want?

And finally…

For one reason or another none of these venue quite fitted in with our plans for the day so in the end I had my wedding at Whitely Hall in Sheffield, which was beautiful, probably more traditional than some of the venues mentioned above, but still a lovely place to hold a small wedding.
